Terms of Business

These terms and conditions of business represent the agreement between the parties for non-exclusive engagement of the services offered by Understanding Cancer. No variation of these terms shall be made without mutual consent of both parties.

Definitions

  1. ‘Understanding Cancer’ shall mean icch.org.uk. The Understanding Cancer property and any parent, subsidiary, holding or associated company thereof as identified to the Client.

  1. ‘The Client’ shall mean the individual person or corporate entity that engages Understanding Cancer to provide consultancy services.

  1. ‘The Agreement’ shall mean the contracted engagement by the Client of the services offered by Understanding Cancer pertaining to the consultancy service.

  1. ‘Fees’ shall mean the professional fees of Understanding Cancer as detailed and located in this terms of business or otherwise directly amended or detailed only by Sarah Howe in writing or in person at any time for any service provided therein.

Products and Services

  1. Understanding Cancer offer information on cancer to GP’s on the scientific advances in cancer treatment and diagnosis. To medical students undertaking in laboratory research projects. To the general public and to volunteer workers at cancer information services and support groups.

  1. Understanding Cancer gives talks to community groups and via our website. Understanding Cancer do not offer psychological or genetic counselling or medical advice, (including but not limited to diagnosis or prognosis) as we are not trained to do so. Understanding Cancer provide information and explanation to GP’s on new anti-cancer drugs and understanding gene chip technology. Understanding Cancer will provide information and explanation to medical students which include but is not limited to understanding cell culture, understanding protein techniques and understanding DNA techniques, Understanding Cancer will also evaluate scientific literature. To the general public Understanding Cancer will provide help on understanding cancer cell biology, understanding cancer jargon and help in locating information about cancer on the worldwide web. To volunteer staff at cancer information and support groups Understanding Cancer shall help in the understanding of cancer cell biology and understanding genetics.

  1. In all our dealings with our clients Understanding Cancer aim to provide a high quality service, to find out what our clients want, and achieve it. Understanding Cancer try to work quickly and efficiently, and we hope you find Understanding Cancer friendly and approachable. At the end of our discussions we hope you will think our fee represents good value for money.

Copyright and Third Parties

  1. All copyright in documents Understanding Cancer produce is reserved to Understanding Cancer. Advice given and documents prepared are for your use only and may not be copied or used by any third party without our express written consent.

Who will be assisting you

  1. All work will be conducted by Sarah Howe who has a PhD in Biochemistry, PGCE in Higher Education and a Bsc (Hons) in Biochemistry and is very well experienced to help in understanding all aspects aforementioned.

Fees

Understanding Cancer charges are at the rate of:-

  1. The General Public – £45.00 per hour, or otherwise as agreed. Understanding Cancer will offer a discounted rate for Medical Students and Volunteers of £40.00 per hour.

  1. General Practitioners – £120.00 per two hours.

  1. In the event of travel for tutorials or talks a charge of £0.40 per mile shall be made, in accordance with the Inland Revenue approved mileage rate as varied from time to time.

Payment of Fees

  1. Understanding Cancer will issue you with an invoice of fees due up to date.

Understanding Cancer require the fee to be paid by you within 14 days from the date of the invoice.

Confidentiality

  1. Information passed to Understanding Cancer is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties unless authorised by you or required by law.

Data Protection

  1. In relation to Personal Data and Sensitive Personal Data (as defined by the Data Protection Act 1998) provided by you to Understanding Cancer, you give your consent to the holding and processing of that data for all purposes relating to these Terms of Business. In particular, you agree that Understanding Cancer can hold and process Personal and Sensitive data on a third party accounting system.

Complaints Procedure

  1. Any complaints should be directed to Sarah Morrison within 14 days of consultation, and any complaints will normally be addressed within 14 days of intimation to Sarah Howe.
